The Bath Time Circus

Giving my kids baths has always been a fun experience when they are babies. They love to splash and kick, the warm water soothes them, and my babies have all loved bath time. But, recently my little guy has become Trouble with a capital “T” at bath time. It is driving me a little crazy. Gone are the days when he would just lay in the water, kick his legs and smile up at me happily. Now, he is a crazy man all over the place. He wants toys to entertain him (understandable since he sees his older siblings with them) … Continue reading

Holding Toys For Ransom

How do you get your kids to pick up after themselves? In my house it was always a battle. Hailey seemed to think that I was put on this earth to pick up after her. Nothing I tried worked, I begged, threatened, even threw toys away when she wasn’t looking. Still the floor was a Barbie minefield. Recently I saw the bin in the picture above on Pinterest. The idea behind it is if Mom has to do your chore by picking up your toys, then you have to do a chore for Mom to get them back. Now, we … Continue reading

Faking Clean

When I was younger I had a housecleaning business. I cleaned two houses a day, most of them once a week. Although cleaning my house is not my favorite thing, I did like cleaning other peoples homes, it was nice to see the difference and I didn’t get sidetracked like I do at home. I learned a lot during that time, the biggest thing being that it’s easy to fool people. I would sometimes have customers call me for an emergency cleaning because they were having company. I usually had to tell them I didn’t have time because I was … Continue reading

Spring Cleaning: The Garage

In most families, garage cleaning is left up to the man of the house. Unless, of course, your last name is Kardashian or Jenner, then organizing the garage is a job for professionals. For the rest of us mere mortals, spring is a time when the entire home gets deep-cleaned from top to bottom, including the garage. While it may seem stereotypical to insist that your husband tackle the task, the fact is, if your significant other houses his collection of tools, sporting equipment and other boy’s toys in the garage, then you might need an extra hand to help … Continue reading

Cleaning Minus the Streaks

I love Clorox Disinfecting Wipes. They are convenient (minus the pain of getting out the first wipe), effective and relatively affordable. However, I would not recommend using them to wipe down bathroom mirrors, regardless of what is written on the container. According to the manufacturer: “Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes combine a thick, textured wipe with Clorox’s unique clear-drying formula, so you can you can use them to clean and disinfect shiny surfaces like mirrors, glass, and metal fixtures.” I don’t doubt that the wipes clean and disinfect the items which they come in contact with (which is why I am a … Continue reading

Spring Cleaning with Toddlers

Spring is here and we are all trying to do our spring cleaning. With toddlers around, it is important that everyone remember to use caution when cleaning. Let’s look at some spring cleaning tips for parents and grandparents with toddlers in the home. Cleaning with Toddlers *Never leave spray bottles of cleaners within a toddler’s reach. They may spray the cleaner into their eyes or even swallow some of the cleaner! It is best to always put the bottle on a high shelf, the top of the refrigerator or some other high place while cleaning. *Do not use strong fragrances … Continue reading

Discounts on Clothing, Shoes, Toys, and Art Supplies

In my last blog, New Freebies at the Mall, I discussed how to get free jeans, t-shirts, and handbags at the mall. Here are some more deals at the mall that are too good to pass up. Toys R Us has a $5 off a $25 purchase. It is good for Friday, July 19th and Saturday, July 20th only. So hurry and get out there today. They have school supplies and clothing in many of their stores. Some of the stores have paired up with Babies R Us, so this coupon can be used for baby stuff in these stores. … Continue reading

What is the Appeal of Playing in the Bathroom?

For some strange reason, when my children were little, the bathroom seemed to be one of their favorite places to play. It didn’t matter if they had friends over or it was just one or two of them, inevitably they would end up in the bathroom—floating toys in the sink, making movies in the dark, or just generally acting squirrely—from the time they were tiny, the bathroom was THE place to be. I swear that when my kids were in early middle school, they filmed a few home-made video movies where the “scary action” took place in the bathroom. By … Continue reading

My Spring Cleaning the Master Closet

The closets in your home can hide many interesting things. This week, I am taking the time to go through all of the closets in our home to de-clutter and organize these spaces. And does anyone need a nice suede skirt or a collection of scrunchies from the 80s? The first closet I attacked on my self-appointed mission was own own master closet. This closet is not only the keep of the clothes that belong to my husband and the clothes that belong to myself, but it is also the keeper of a number of other things, such as the … Continue reading

Finding Peace on the Sabbath

It is important to realize that the Sabbath Day is a day of rest. Many people try to cram so much into a Sunday, that they are left exhausted at the end of it. As a mother to three young children, there is rarely a Sunday that I do not come home exhausted from church. At times I wonder if all of my hard work is worth it, but I know that it is. Since church attendance is anything but peaceful right now, I find that I need to do more at home on Sunday to help me find that … Continue reading
